Judy Garland - I Can't Give You Anything But Love (Spotlight On Judy Garland)
I can't give you anything but love, baby
That's the only thing I've plenty of, baby
Dream awhile, scheme awhile
you're sure to find
Happiness, and I guess
All those things you've always pinned for
Gee, I'd like to see you looking swell, baby
Diamond bracelets, Woolworth's doesn't sell, baby
Until that lucky day, you know darn well, baby
I can't give you anything but Love
Judy Garland...I Can't Give You Anything But Love (04:15)
From 'The Judy Garland Show' Here's Judy In a colorized version of this song.
I don't think she was evermore beautiful. She had dropped some weight from her Carnegie Hall concert a year earlier, but she wasn't too thin as she was a year later on her series. And this arrangement completely re-invented this song. It was traditionally sung up tempo. She did for this what Streisand did for Happy Days are Here Again. They turned those songs into mini dramas. That's real performing genius. Long live Judy.

I agree with the other comments. She is totally in control here. This is a brilliant performance and shows what a great actress she was in her songs. This is what's called "living the moment". She is so real in the performance, as if she's really speaking this to someone. Judy was an astounding actress in her songs. Very few performers deliver songs like this anymore, mostly it's a european style of performing. Liza is also brilliant at this. Simply astounding rendition and performance.

I often wonder what it would be like to have lived in her era and to have witnessed the wonderful spell-binding performances and vivacity that this angelic woman had. Such an absolutely remarkable woman...R.I.P., my love.

From what I know, the "network brass" directed Judy to "tone things down" from her usual level of performance, since they felt viewers might find her too extreme! At any rate, it's still a topnotch performance from Miss Show Business!!

What year is this if you don't mind?? I love and adore her music, but she seems very out of it on this to me. Where's she usually demonstrative, she seems slow if not idle in her movement. I realize this is a melancholy song, but still. Am I hallucinating myself here??

No i think he lack of figiting and gestures, is the opposite to her being out of it. Infact, shes more aware and in control here than she was in any of her other shows nd stuff. Shes controling her movement and is fullly aware that she doesnt need to cover anything up by filling in with 'judy' gestures, she knows here that less in more lol. If ya get me? Sorry for my rant! oh and i thinkthis is 1962, correct me if im wrong. And yup this is her at her best!!! :D
